Brief: Bank forecast declines

Salt Lake City economist Jeff Thredgold, who calculates the index, noted Nevada's current unemployment rate of 3.7 percent is at its low for the year and compares to an average rate of 5.7 percent during the 1990-1997 period.
Despite the low unemployment rate in Nevada, job growth is slowing and Thredgold said that too is bad for small businesses.
Another negative factor for Nevada is global economic weakness, which has reduced visitation to the state from residents of the Pacific Rim.
