New state personnel chief named

Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999 | 4:23 a.m.

Gov. Kenny Guinn named Greene, the department's chief of field services, to the top post vacated by Sharon Murphy. He said a permanent head of the department would be named later.

Greene has been working for 18 years in the Personnel Department, which oversees payroll and placement of Nevada's 15,000 state workers.

Murphy is retiring from state service after a 31-year career that included stints at Personnel, Gaming Control, Department of Motor Vehicles, Welfare and the Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Abuse.

Murphy said she took the personnel chief's job two years ago intending to quit after former Gov. Bob Miller finished his term. Guinn took over from Miller on Jan. 4.

Other appointments by Guinn include Budget Director Perry Comeaux, a holdover from the Miller administration who is putting in long hours getting the state budget ready for presentation to the 1999 Legislature.

Other holdovers include Carol Jackson, director of the state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation; Marlene Lockard, head of the Department of Information Technology; Human Resources Director Charlotte Crawford; Prison Director Bob Bayer; Gaming Control Board member Dennis Neilander and Conservation and Natural Resources Director Peter Morros.

Guinn also has named former Las Vegas FBI chief Bobby Siller to the Control Board.
