Letter: Letter on trucks not whole story

Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999 | 12:32 p.m.

Yes, Mr. Bougon, "force large trucks and buses to travel in the far right lane." Also, cars and trucks pulling recreational vehicles should only be in the right lane. Too bad if they can't go the speed limit of 65-75 mph in the right lane. They are a danger, also; even more than large trucks and buses, because most people towing them have never been taught the correct way to handle a towed vehicle. And motor homes also. After all, they are as big as a bus.

Absolutely, Mr. Bougon, so they (trucks and buses) can "run over" the cars going 40 mph on the interstate! We own a "large truck" and a bus-sized motor home, and I can't count the number of times we were traveling in the right lane, only to come upon some driver who can't go the speed limit. Or some pickup truck with 10 people in the back bed. Or some senior citizen afraid to be on the interstate and shouldn't be there in the first place.

And also, while you're at it, Mr. Bougon, you can pay the trucks the extra money it will cost the company for the extra hours it takes for them to get their load to their final destination. Because traveling in the right lane, the trucks can't go the speed limit! It's too dangerous.

And as for the "large rocks and stones" you must never follow other cars on the road. Since there are more cars on the road, there are more cars and pickups and vans that damage paint jobs and windshields, etc. It's a fact, Mr. Bougon, that if you drive on the road, no matter where you are, you run the risk of damage to your vehicle, and not only from large trucks and buses as you seem to think.

And while we're on the subject, what about the vehicles traveling in the left and middle lanes who do not go the speed limit. Faster traffic? I don't think so. You obviously have never been "over the road" and observed the cars who no longer "drive right, pass left." What happened to that road courtesy?

Mr. Bougon, you have more research to do.
