The victim's name and hometown were withheld pending notification of family members.
Placer County sheriff's deputies said the skier apparently hit a tree on the backside of the ski area.
The victim received cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but was pronounced dead by a physician at the scene.
The 1:42 p.m. accident is under investigation.
