Nevada Nurses Association propose legislation

But hospital officials said the proposal duplicates existing regulations and adds an unnecessary level of bureaucracy.
Among other things, the so-called Quality of Care Act proposed by the association and the Service Employees International Union would require Nevada hospitals to report patient results and set staffing levels based on the severity of illness.
"Our goal is to educate policy makers that most of these provisions are already in place," said Stacy Jennings, acting president of the Nevada Association of Hospitals and Health Systems.
Nurses also are seeking protection for health care workers who report problems.
"It's important that people are not afraid to bring unsafe or questionable situations forward," said Dorothy Riley, president-elect of the Nevada Nurses Association.
