Brief: Workers vote for union, firm to appeal
Monday, Jan. 11, 1999 | 11:42 a.m.
Phoenix-based America West announced that 53 percent of the 1,999 eligible voters approved representation. But the company is challenging the results because it believes union organizers interfered with the secrecy of the election by collecting ballots at public meetings, which the company says violates the Railway Labor Act.
About 400 Las Vegas employees of America West were eligible to vote. It was the third attempt by the TWU to organize America West's employees. The union already represent's Southwest Airlines' ramp workers.
America West has more than 80 flights from 26 gates at McCarran International Airport.
