But the growth of the Las Vegas area is creating plenty of opportunities for information technology professionals, and Las Vegas is ranked No. 8 on Computerworld newspaper's 1999 Top 10 Information Technology Job Markets list.
The best markets for information technology professionals are Boston, Chicago, Atlanta, Washington D.C., New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Las Vegas, St. Louis and Austin.
The rankings are based on Computerworld's annual salary survey, skills survey and hiring forecast.
"Criteria for identifying these cities included population information, housing costs, opinions of local business leaders and lifestyle issues," the newspaper said.
