Letter: Off-road vehicles undermine project

Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999 | 10:20 a.m.

The daily work accomplished by county workmen is providing them with a "little park all their own."

Why isn't access to this area being protected to disallow all vehicles from entering, to protect the work being performed and paid for with taxpayer money? I spoke with a workman one day recently asking him to pass on these concerns.

Since the work is continuing, and the off-road vehicles are still accessing the area daily, I can only assume it's been deemed to be not important enough to take any action. What little wildlife that still exists in this small patch of desert is obviously in peril, too.

Allowing destruction of the county's work on a daily basis by off-road vehicles seems like pretty poor planning to me, not to mention very costly to taxpayers. What's worse is that this project is very essential to prevent destruction from future flash flooding, like we experienced in September.

Is anyone in authority going to take responsibility for doing this job right the first time, and do something to prevent further intrusion in this delicate Duck Creek area? If left to continue as is, what an atrocious waste of time and money.
