Letter: Don’t ignore new LV Philharmonic
Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999 | 10:15 a.m.
The warm reception extended to the visiting New York Philharmonic demonstrates the demand in this community for professional performances of classical music. The Las Vegas Philharmonic is prepared to meet that demand. Founded in July and comprised of local, professional, classical musicians, the Las Vegas Philharmonic has already made notable local appearances at the Summerlin Fourth of July Festivities and the spectacular opening of the Bellagio hotel-casino.
Future plans for the Las Vegas Philharmonic include a series of youth concerts in conjunction with the Clark County School District, and a very special "Mahler in May" program open to the entire community.
Our thanks to the Sun for the encouraging recognition of the need for professional classical music in Southern Nevada. We hope the Sun and the rest of the community will lend their support to the valley's newest cultural resource, the Las Vegas Philharmonic.
Susan Tompkins, Founder and president, Las Vegas Philharmonic
