Letter: Sexual preference not ‘lifestyle’
Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999 | 11:35 a.m.
However, let's get one thing straight. No one chooses to be gay any more than they choose to be tall or brown-eyed. It's merely an aspect of their identity. It's also no more a "lifestyle" than being straight is.
There are working-class, gay Americans and there are rich, gay Americans. There are gay waitresses, secretaries, scientists, professional football players, doctors, teachers, truck drivers and mail carriers.
It's not a lifestyle -- it's just part of who someone is.
