Letter: Apology definitely owed, but from Capitol Hill
Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999 | 11:33 a.m.
We choose to elect human presidents. Congress invaded the president's private life. He apparently couldn't tell them, "That's none of your business!" as most employees would tell their bosses if they dared ask questions which were too personal.
The president, as a fellow human being, has a right to privacy. Would any of us give up that right if we were president?
Does Hillary Rodham Clinton have any right to punish her husband?
"No, ma'am, we are members of the Congress. We are allowed private lives because we are human beings. But we simply can't allow you and the president to be human. If we had respected your privacy, what shape would the country be in right now?"
