Brief: New national gaming study planned
Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999 | 11:27 a.m.
The new commission will be announced Friday and will consist only of public sector officials. They will include a governor, three state legislators, three regulators -- including a pari-mutuel, a lottery and a casino regulator -- an attorney general, a mayor, an Indian tribal representative and a law enforcement official.
The commission will study the impact of gaming on state fiscal policies and budgets, state credit ratings, educational and environmental programs, businesses ancillary to gaming, employment, law enforcement, and family and personal health.
Council spokesman Bob Mackin said the commission will be non-political and objective.
"This thing is going to be objective," said Mackin. "It's going to find that there are significant pros, and its going to find that there are significant cons."
