Police eye tool in missing-persons cases

Metro Police and the attorney general's office have found a new technology that they say will help find missing people more quickly and efficiently.
The new TRAK computer system will allow police to simultaneously send information on a missing person to all law-enforcement agencies and media outlets in the state, Steve George, a spokesman for the attorney general, said.
"If a person turns up missing at 1 p.m. in Clark County, all the law enforcement agencies and the media may not know about it until 3 p.m., and by that time the person may no longer be in Clark County," George said. "With this system we can send a statewide e-mail and fax, without having to send information out separately."
A photo is scanned into a system to instantly create a flier, which would also include information such as age, weight and height, George said.
