Vega, the first Hispanic female ever to become a district judge in Nevada, replaces Nancy Becker, who was elected to the state Supreme Court.
Vega, 43, has been a municipal judge since 1989. She worked for the Clark County District Attorney's Office, where she started the child abuse and sexual assault unit. And she had experience in civil litigation.
Mahan, 55, succeeds District Judge Myron Leavitt, who was also elected to the Nevada Supreme Court. Mahan has specialized in civil law.
