Bid process for Neonopolis garage delayed

The city of Las Vegas Redevelopment Agency will hold a special meeting Thursday to consider awarding the bid for the Neonopolis parking garage.
Although the City Council, which acts as the agency, met on Monday, the bid could not be awarded due to a dispute about the type of licenses held by the different bidders.
The engineering estimate for the two-story underground parking structure was $14 million. The bids for the work at the planned entertainment complex downtown, however, came in as follows:
M.J. Dean Construction, $11,049,000.
Bomel Construction Co. Inc., $11,335,212.
Granite Construction Co., $11,499,499.
J.R. Jacks Construction Corp., $12,579,000.
The project was pre-approved by the Redevelopment Agency in December. Granite Construction, however, protested the bids by Dean and Bomel because both omitted documentation of the waterproofing installer they intended to use on the project.
The bid documents required proof that the waterproofing installer was properly certified, according to Edward Riggs of Granite Construction.
Because of the protest, the state Contractors Board was to meet today to determine whether the license is required.
