The Bishop Gorman girls soccer team advanced to this year's 4A Southern Zone title game Tuesday, posting a 2-0 win over tournament host Durango.
The Gaels (16-6-1) took a 1-0 lead in the game's 30th minute, when Jacqueline Cartwright blasted a close-range shot into the net. Fifteen minutes later, the visitors got some insurance on a Jessika Vazquez tally from 20 yards.
"They put us dead about a month ago," said Gorman coach Victor Arbelaez, whose club began the event as one of the two lowest seeds. "We're going to the final, but we're not just happy to be there. We want to win it."
The Gaels will face the winner of today's Bonanza-Valley semifinal game, which will be played at Durango at 3 p.m.
The championship is slated for Saturday at noon, also at Durango.
