Columnist Peter Benton: Paiute’s Starks takes low-pro honors

The Ray Norvell and Bob Tyndell-sponsored Pro-Pro played last week by members of the Las Vegas Chapter, Southwest Section of the PGA at the Spanish Trail Country Club saw Mike Starks of the Paiute golf complex win low-pro honors with a 2-under-par 70.
Spanish Trail's Brian Anderson placed second at 71 while Dale Akridge and Darrin Euler, both of Southshore, tied for third at 72.
Starks and Jeff Bruckner (Mount Charleston) captured the best-ball of twosome with a 67. Spanish Trail's Scott Hooper and Anderson, along with Pat Duty and Akridge of Southshore, tied for second with 69s.
Host pro Jerry Roberts won the senior division with a 77. Lloyd Harris of Kingman placed second at 78. Tying for third with 79s were unattached Bill Farkas, Jim Kirwan of Calvada and Scotty Greer of Highland Falls.
* ALL-WORLD: The World Golf Championships Anderson Consulting Match Play Championship, the first of the $5 million events, is set for Feb. 24-28 at the La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
The top 64 players from the Official World Rankings on the Monday before tournament week will be eligible to tee it up.
The $5 million purse will be considered "official money" on each player's home tour, with the following breakdown: champion, $1 million; runner-up, $500,000; third place, $400,000; fourth place, $300,000; quarter-finalist, $150,000; third round, $75,000; second round, $50,000; and first-round losers, $25,000.
