Brief: Casino operator posts loss, faces tough ‘99

The Sands Regent lost $619,000 or 14 cents per share in the quarter, an improvement from the prior-year quarter's loss of $1.2 million or 28 cents per share.
Revenue of $13.2 million in the latest quarter was down from $13.5 million in the year-ago quarter.
Chief Executive Ferenc Szony said 1999 will be difficult for the company's 1,000-room Reno hotel-casino because Reno is not hosting a big bowling tournament this year and because of the opening of new megaresorts in Las Vegas.
"Some of our visitors will likely take fewer trips to Reno this year in order to experience these 'must see' facilities," he said.
