Letter: Rich get richer with GOP plan for tax cut
Monday, Feb. 15, 1999 | 10:20 a.m.
Secretary of Treasury Robert Rubin has explained how this will happen. Thirty-five percent of such a tax cut would go to the top 1 percent of the earners. And two-thirds of the benefits to the top 20 percent.
This is just another Republican policy, begun in the Reagan era, to benefit the rich.
This policy, and its subsequent legislation, has sent a record number of millionaires and billionaires scurrying to the banks with their undeserved earned loot.
And the not-rich just keep getting poorer.
A fair plan should be to give a tax cut to the poor and increase the tax rate for the rich. The rich don't need more money, but the little guy does.
But when did the Republicans do anything for the little guy?
