Joseph Abodeely

Joseph Abodeely, 68, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born Nov. 26, 1930, in Iowa. A resident for many years, he was an entertainer/musician.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Bronkest Abodeely.

No local services are scheduled. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Jerry Ellis Alexander

Jerry Ellis Alexander, 82, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 18, 1916, in Decatur, Ill. A resident for 21 1/2 years, he was a retired real estate salesman and a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; and one son, Michael Alexander of Las Vegas.

Vane W. Compton

Vane W. Compton, 78, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Feb. 3, 1920, in Panama, Ill. A resident for 39 years, he was a retired electrician, a World War II Navy, a member of Loyal Order of Moose and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 357.

He is survived by his wife, Clara; two daughters, Judith Herman and Dawn Daily, and one son, Terry Compton, all of Las Vegas; two sisters, Marge Esposito and Dorothy Romans, both of Phoenix; two brothers, Richard Compton of Brimfield, Ohio, and Jesse Compton of Donnellson, Ill.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Palm Chapel, Main. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park.

James G. Cook

James G. Cook, 58, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born June 4, 1940, in Grand Rapids, Mich. A resident for 10 years, he was a retail automotive manager.

He is survived by his wife, Jacki; one daughter, Jill Sacha, and one son, Jim Cook, both of Las Vegas; and one sister, Mary Lu Herzog of Grand Rapids, Mich.

A memorial service will be 9 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph, Husband of Mary Catholic Church, 7260 W. Sahara Ave. Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., is handling arrangements.

Carver William Dean

Carver William Dean, 61, of North Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born Sept. 30, 1937, in Baltimore. A resident for 15 years, he was a retired Air Force technical sergeant and a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Tokiko Miyazaki Dean; one daughter, Kim Sue Johnson of North Las Vegas; one brother, Lonnie William Dean of Belin, Mexico; one sister, Gwendolyn Olivia Dean of Waldorf, Md.; and 10 grandchildren.

Martin F. Duffy

Martin F. Duffy, 91, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. He was born June 12, 1907, in New Jersey. A resident for 19 years, he was a retired liquor distiller, a Korean War Marine Corps veteran, a member of the Knights of Columbus and Marine Corps League.

He is survived by one son, Michael Duffy of Las Vegas; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A. Leonard Friedman

A. Leonard Friedman, 74, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local health care center. He was born June 17, 1924, in New York City. A resident for nine years, he was a retired university professor, a World War II Army veteran, a member of the Jewish War Veterans, B'nai B'rith, former vice president of Temple Bet Kenesset Bamidbar of Sun City, a mediator for the Clark County criminal justice system and an officer and member of several professional and public organizations.

He is survived by his wife, Elinor; one son, Hal Friedman of New York City; one daughter, Deborah Friedman of Laurel, Md.; and one brother, Bernard Friedman of Allentown, Pa.

Services were scheduled at 3 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Carl G. Galloway

Carl G. Galloway, 85, of Bloomington, Ill., died Tuesday in Bloomington. He was born Jan. 19, 1914, in Veederburg, Ind. A resident for 20 years, he was a retired state police officer.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia; one daughter, Patricia Green of Bloomington; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Palm Valley View Memorial Park. Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

Leon Laverne Gelhart

Leon Laverne Gelhart, 63, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born July 19, 1935, in Susanville, Calif. A resident for 40 years, he was a retired lighting and sound technician, a veteran of the Naval Reserve and a retired member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy V.; one daughter, Rhonda L. Gelhart-Bradshaw of Caliente; two sons, Randall L. Gelhart of Las Vegas and Rodney S. Gelhart of Holiday, Utah; one sister, M. Julare Norwood of Granger, Wash.; one brother, Robert P. Gelhart of Santa Ana, Calif.; and many other family members, friends and business associates; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 1-7 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to 1 p.m. services Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Palm Memorial Park, Northwest.

Allison K. Kramer

Allison K. Kramer, 38, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospice. She was born Oct. 16, 1960, in San Jose, Calif. A lifelong resident, she worked for Metro Police in microfilm records for 12 years.

She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Karan and Edward Anderson, and one sister, Shelley Krohn, all of Las Vegas; her father and stepmother, Glenn A. and Alpha Sears, and one brother, Raymond Sears, all of Cucamonga, Calif.; and one nephew, Ryan Krohn of Las Vegas.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St.

Andrew James Lacy Sr.

Andrew James Lacy Sr., 46, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 24, 1952, in Hollinsdale, Miss. A resident for 13 years, he was a maintenance worker who was disabled.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon A.; two daughters, Andrea Lacy and Chappelle Lacy, two sons, Andrew James Lacy Jr. and LaRand White, and his mother, Vellis Lacy, all of Las Vegas; one sister, Gwen Lacy of Chicago; three brothers, Moses Lacy of Lancing, Ill., Marvin Lacy of Las Vegas and Bobby Joe Lacy of Shreveport, La.; and eight grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled noon-2 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Graveside services will follow in Palm Memorial Park.

Walter Todd Ludloff

Walter Todd Ludloff, 68, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. He was born Sept. 25, 1930, in Hilo, Hawaii. A resident for less than one year, he was a retired administrator for Exxon and worked part-time for Pro-Tec and Wells Fargo Security.

He is survived by three sons, Alan Ludloff of Aliso Viejo, Calif., Erik Ludloff of San Rafael, Calif., and Wesley Ludloff of Las Vegas; two brothers, Herman Ludloff of Honolulu and Richard Ludloff of Santa Rosa, Calif.; one sister, Elaine Wilhelm of Hilo; and three grandchildren.

Burial will be in Hilo. Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd., is handling arrangements.

William 'Mel' Moore

William 'Mel' Moore, 74, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born July 16, 1934, in St. Louis. A resident for two months, he was a retired general contractor and a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa; one daughter, Mary Brecht of Barnhart, Mo.; one son, David Moore of San Francisco; one sister, Patricia Sorbel of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St.

Floyd A. Nielsen

Floyd A. Nielsen, 76, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was born April 9, 1922, in Illinois. A resident for six months, he was a business owner.

He is survived by three daughters, Coletta Bruce of Las Vegas, Marsha Climes of Minnesota and Ronna Craig of Illinois; and six sons, Cary Nielsen, Mark Nielsen, Brent Nielsen and Tracy Nielsen, all of Illinois, and Chris Nielsen and Grant Nielsen, both of California.

Ruth E. Orbon

Ruth E. Orbon, 70, of Pahrump died Friday in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 17, 1928, in Belleville, Mich. A resident for three years, she was a bookkeeper.

She is survived by her husband, Homer "Babe"; two daughters, Linda Baker and Sharon Bull; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Paul G. Phillips

Paul G. Phillips, 49, of Spearfish, S.D., died Monday in Spearfish. He was born Oct. 12, 1949, in Hot Springs, S.D. A former resident of Henderson, he was a firefighter, a home builder, an Air Force veteran who served tours in Vietnam and Thailand, received the Air Force Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, NDSM and RVCM, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, enjoyed riding dirt bikes with his son and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Kay; one daughter, Amy Phillips of Rapid City, S.D., one son, Kevin Phillips of Watertown, S.D.; his parents, Joe and Shirley Phillips of Henderson; four brothers, Frank Phillips of Ord, Neb., Joseph Phillips of Silverdale, Wash., Andrew Phillips of Las Vegas and Stephen Phillips of Henderson; four sisters, Rosan Monaghan of Palmdale, Calif., Wendy Gillen of Las Vegas, Barbara Smith of Elko and Jean Quade of Sundance, Wyo.; and many friends.

Ruth Helen Russell

Ruth Helen Russell, 96, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local care center. She was born Sept. 23, 1902, in New York. A resident for 10 years, she was a medical secretary.

She is survived by two daughters, Ruth Russell and Lois Zeis, both of Las Vegas; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

John S. Schlesner

John S. Schlesner, 67, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Utah. He was born May 14, 1931, in Watertown, Wis. A resident for 27 years, he was a truck driver.

He is survived by his wife, Mary May; six daughters, Stacey Schlesner, Susan Schlesner and Sharon Schlesner, all of Las Vegas, Jeanne Solik and Judy Schlesner, both of Milwaukee, and Janey Rule of Augusta, Ga.; four sons, John Schlesner Jr. of Westby, Wis., James Schlesner of Waupaca, Wis., Jacob Schlesner of Milwaukee and Steven Schlesner of Las Vegas; his mother, Viola Schlesner of Las Vegas; 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Stephen Jo Simpson

Stephen Jo Simpson, 49, of Las Vegas died Jan. 3 in a local care center. He was born Sept. 18, 1949, in Colorado. A resident for four years, he was a cable TV repairman.

He is survived by one daughter, Jenna R. Simpson; his mother, Dorothy; two brothers, Larry A. Wagener and Joel E. Simpson; and one sister, Connie Jones.

Leora Jean Suprynowicz

Leora Jean Suprynowicz, 50, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 29, 1948, in Hawaii. A resident for five years, she was a hotel-casino graphic artist.

She is survived by her husband, Vin; one sister, Joanne Moore of Cresco, Pa.; one brother, Gary Smith of Waterford, Conn.; two aunts; and two nephews.

Richard C. Taylor

Richard C. Taylor, 75, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 30, 1923, in Colorado. A resident for 26 years, he was a heavy equipment mechanic, a World War II Navy veteran who served at Pearl Harbor and a member of Operating Engineers Union Local 12.

He is survived by one son, Richard Taylor of Pahrump; three daughters, Sandra Bucher of Henderson, Karla Ann Garacoya of Ecuador and Margo Sweeney of Las Vegas; one sister, Myrtle Rempp of Hemet, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

James Alton Tidwell Jr.

James Alton Tidwell Jr., 49, of Boulder City died Saturday in Boulder City. He was born June 30, 1950, in Concord, N.C. A resident for 1 1/2 years, he was an automotive mechanic.

He is survived by two sons, Paul James Tidwell of Boulder City and Nicholas Brian Tidwell of Florida; his mother and stepfather, Sarah K. and Rick Hansen of Boulder City; one sister, Linda Joyce Marchese of Las Vegas; and four grandchildren.

James Walker Sr., 52, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. He was born Nov. 14, 1946, in Sondheimer, La. A resident for 13 years, he was a truck driver and a member of Teamsters Union 631.

He is survived by one son, James Walker Jr., and two daughters, Carolyn Williams and Reneica Green, all of Las Vegas; his mother, Lucy Walker of Tallulah, La.; eight brothers, George Walker, O.C. Walker, Louis Seastrunk, Bobby Burrell, James Walker and George Walker Sr., all of Las Vegas, Tom Walker of New Orleans and Cornelius Lee of Tallulah; five sisters, Archye Jett and Carrie Walker, both of Las Vegas, and Liza James, Linda Walker and Brenda Taylor, all of Tallulah; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; and four grandchildren.

Kathleen 'Kay' Willis

Kathleen 'Kay' Willis, 73, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born May 16, 1925, in Wichita, Kan. A resident for eight years, she was a retired psychiatric nurse.

She is survived by three daughters, Susan Scott, Nancy Conley and Linda Willis, all of Las Vegas; two sisters, Fern Petersen of Tucson, Ariz., and Flora Reeder of Carson City; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
