New carrier to begin service April 15th

Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999 | 9:19 a.m.

National President Michael Conway said the airline will begin additional flights to New York and San Francisco within a month later.

Conway told a chamber of commerce luncheon Wednesday that National Airline passengers who have a stop-over in Las Vegas will be allowed unlimited time before continuing on to their final destination.

National will take delivery of its first Boeing 757 jet aircraft Friday afternoon at McCarran International Airport, Conway said.

Tourism officials are hopeful the new airline will help beef up air traffic to Las Vegas.

The number of arriving and departing passengers at McCarran was down 0.3 percent for the year, with 30,227,287 passengers in 1998, compared to 30,315,094 in 1997. The traffic count was up 5.6 percent in December over the same month a year ago.

Officials say airlines are opting for more lucrative business passenger traffic, cutting back on the number of less profitable Las Vegas flights.
