Sloan will serve the balance of former chairman Hector Mon's term, which expires in 2000. Mon's position as the hotel-casino lobbying organization's chairman ended when he resigned his position with Harrah's Entertainment Corp.

Sloan, an attorney who has overseen Circus Circus political activities for years, said he will try to "enhance awareness of the gaming industry's enormous contributions to the state's economy and the negative impacts an industry downturn would have on those who live and work here."

At Circus, Sloan's duties include directing the company's development and construction activities.
