A capsule look at the Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame class of 1999:

Marty Barrett, 40

Rancho High graduate played 10 years of major league baseball, starring for Boston Red Sox during 1980s. Tied MLB record for hits in a World Series (13) in 1986.

Bill Ireland, 71

UNLV's first football coach, helped squad to 26-23-1 record during five-year tenure. Helped Rebels reach Division I-A status during 14-year stint as UNLV's second athletic director.

Davey Pearl, 81

Referee for more than 3,000 boxing fights, including an estimated 70 world title bouts. Gained international notoriety after officiating Ali vs. Spinks in 1981. Member of World Boxing Association Hall of Fame.

Cashman family

One of Southern Nevada's most influential founding families, instrumental in creation of Las Vegas Invitational PGA event, with Jim Jr. and James III serving as chairmen. Strong financial backers of UNLV's national championship golf program.
