The skier went out of bounds at the Alpine County resort and into the Mokelumne Wilderness on Wednesday.
The victim, whose name has not been released, fell as far as 500 feet onto some rocks, witnesses said.
Kirkwood ski patrol assisted the skier and attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation but the skier was pronounced dead at the scene, the Alpine County Sheriff's office said.
Fallon Naval Air Station sent a helicopter to help remove the victim's remains from the steep Sierra mountainside.
