Nevada Department of Taxation, has been named by Gov.
Kenny Guinn to the three-member
Public Utilities Commission.
Pitlock served on the predecessor organization of
the PUC, the Public Service Commission, from
1987 to January 1995, when he took his present job.
Pitlock, a registered nonpartisan, joins Chairwoman
Judy Sheldrew, a Democrat, and Don Soderberg, a
Republican, on the utility regulation body. He replaces
Lucy Stewart, a Republican, who resigned from the
$80,700-a-year job last week.
A certified public accountant, Pitlock joined the
PSC staff as an auditor in 1979 and worked his way up
to director of regulatory operations.
He joins the PUC as the regulatory body grapples
with establishing rules to permit competition in the
electric utility industry.
The PUC also this year is
expected to hear general rate cases for Nevada Power
Co. and Sierra Pacific Power Co. and the proposed
acquisition of Southwest Gas Corp. by Oneok Inc. of
Tulsa, Okla.
"I'm looking forward to the challenge," Pitlock said.
