Ronnie George, 29, was arrested last week in Modesto, Calif., in the death of Douglas Netherby.
Netherby, 59, a self-employed former miner, was shot to death in the living room of his mobile home on Jan. 13 or Jan. 14, Skinner said. The two apparently had been living together temporarily, he said.
"He was shot once in the back of the head," the sheriff said. "He was probably shot by surprise."
