The index is complied by UNLV's Center for Business and Economic Research. The January index, based on November data, is a forecast for the performance of the local economy in May.
The index stood at 123.15 in January, up 0.24 percent from December and up 1.01 percent from January 1998.
Jumps in McCarran Airport traffic (3.86 percent), taxable sales (nearly 12 percent) and gross gaming revenue (7.24 percent) offset declines in residential and commercial construction permitting.
