LV casino recalling slot club cards

The Gold Coast hotel-casino in Las Vegas is recalling its slot club player cards, partly because the casino's slot tracking system isn't Y2K compliant.
The cards will not function after midnight Dec. 31 because the Gold Coast's old player tracking system was not made Y2K compliant in time for the 2000 rollover, casino spokeswoman Darita Ewing said. The casino is informing customers in signs throughout the resort to get new player tracking cards.
The Gold Coast chose not to correct the Y2K problem because it is switching over its player tracking system from International Game Technology to Casino Data Systems and saw no need to update a system that was being replaced.
The Casino Data system will become functional on Jan. 1, resulting in a smooth switchover for customers. Starting Jan. 1, old cards will not function in the Gold Coast's machines. Other properties owned by Coast Resorts are not affected by the problem.
Station Casinos' "Boarding Pass" card, the most widely used in Las Vegas, is Y2K compliant and won't have to be changed before 2000, company spokesman Jack Taylor said.
