Western Nevada CattleWomen Inc. will award a $50 gift certificate from Butler Meat Co. to the parents of the last baby born at the hospital in 1999.
Parents of the first baby born in 2000 will get one, too.
"We decided that we wanted to give the first baby (of 2000) a $50 gift certificate, but I said I felt bad for the last baby," said Annalyn Settelmeyer of Gardnerville, president of Western Nevada CattleWomen.
"I mean, they just missed it by a couple of minutes."
Settelmeyer said the certificates are a good way to spread the group's mission, which is to promote beef.
"Beef is great. It offers a lot of nutrition. We think the parents are going to need as much protein as they can get for those long nights awake," she said.
"I'm just hoping that the parents aren't vegetarians."
