The family of Carole Sund, who was killed along with her daughter Juli, 15, and Silvina Pelosso, 16, when they visited Yosemite National Park earlier this year, has donated $5,000 through the Carole Sund-Carrington Memorial Reward Foundation.
The reward, including $2,500 from Secret Witness and $2,500 in donations from "Grandpa Bill" Darnell's family and friends, now totals $10,000.
Darnell was stabbed the evening of Sept. 13 at his apartment in northeast Reno. Mortally wounded, he was able to call 911 but did not report details of his assailant.
Deputy Chief Jim Weston said police have no current leads in the only unsolved homicide among the 19 in Reno so far this year.
"The extra reward will add incentive to people who know something," he said.
Francis Carrington, Carole Sund's father and Juli Sund's grandfather, built the Carson Mall in the mid-1960s and still owns it and the Safeway shopping complex in Carson City. The foundation was established in April to help families of victims with reward money.
