Letter: Tax cuts ignore huge national debt
Friday, Dec. 17, 1999 | 9:09 a.m.
Kyle L. Tingle wrote a recent letter urging tax cuts yet he, like the Republican leaders, ignore our $5 trillion debt, most of which was rung up under President Ronald Reagan when he tried to combine tax cuts with Star Wars spending.
This debt costs taxpayers more than a billion dollars each day just for the interest. To ignore this debt -- and provide tax cuts that are highly beneficial to the wealthy -- shows a lack of common sense, if not outright stupidity by the Republicans.
