Have New Year’s weight-loss resolution? Call for help
Friday, Dec. 17, 1999 | 10:17 a.m.
If the proverbial New Year's Day resolve to lose weight and get in shape is still intact on Jan. 15, there's a telephone number all such determined people might want to call that day.
The number -- (888) 397-2473 -- will be staffed by experts provided by the American Council on Exercise. Any exercise-related question will be welcomed and answered by the 40-plus experts standing by to take the calls.
Included among the experts will be Bonnie Kaye, fitness reporter for CBS Saturday Morning, and Karen Voight and Keli Roberts, who have written books and produced videos on exercising for fitness.
The call-in opportunity is an annual event. Last January more than 1,000 people called the number, which will be operating for Nevadans and others on Pacific Standard Time from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. The most-asked questions involved home gym equipment, stomach flattening and strength training.
The event is sponsored by Family Circle magazine. The American Council on Exercise is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the benefits of physical activity and protecting consumers against unsafe and ineffective fitness products and instruction.
The organization can be reached at (800) 825-3636 or through its website (www.acefitness.org).
