Officers to shop for children's gifts
More than 30 children from northwest Las Vegas will have a merrier Christmas this year thanks to Metro Police's Northwest Command Community-Oriented Policing officers and a $1,200 grant from Housing and Urban Development.
The grant will allow officers to purchase gifts and clothing for the children, aged 8 months to 15 years. The gifts will be presented Thursday during a Christmas party at 11 a.m. in the old Jay Jacobs store at the Meadows mall.
Troop 349 will honor nine members
Nine scouts from Troop 349 will be awarded the highest scouting honor -- Eagle Scout -- in a ceremony Saturday.
The ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. at the Green Valley Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Henderson Mayor Jim Gibson will present the awards to: Kyle Clark, Brett Davis, Zane Hadfield, Brett Lee, Joel Lord, Jeff Richardson, Nicholas Strobelt, Craig Zimit and Adam Zockoll.
The new Eagle Scouts attend or have graduated from Green Valley High School. The troop Scout Leaders are Robert Nisson and Chris Zockoll.
