Man who held police at bay charged with Reno-area robberies

Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999 | 10:05 a.m.

A federal grand jury on Wednesday indicted Darryl Williams for the Dec. 2 holdup of the Cal Fed bank on Booth Street.

Williams, 33, of Oakland, is also charged locally with robbery for allegedly posing as a police officer and robbing a Reno man on Dec. 12.

Monday's standoff with officers began when Williams drove away from a Washoe County sheriff's deputy who attempted to stop him for a traffic violation.

After a short chase, Williams drove to a residential neighborhood where his car stalled. He pointed a gun at his head when officers approached him.

The standoff ended peacefully 13 hours later.
