Some 3.1 million people visited Las Vegas in October -- a hefty increase of 13 percent from October 1998.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority today reported the October numbers bring the year-to-date visitation number to 28.4 million, up 11 percent from the year-ago period.
The October increase follows an increase of 16.3 percent in September, which was the biggest increase since 1994.
The LVCVA said the hotel-casino industry achieved an occupancy rate in October of 92.2 percent, up 2.8 percentage points from October 1998. This came despite a 9.8 percent increase in the city's room inventory to 120,444 rooms.
The increases were driven by a 17.9 percent increase in auto traffic from Southern California and a 15.9 percent increase in the passenger count at McCarran International Airport.
