Henderson’s Macpherson wins her third PWBA title
Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999 | 10:48 a.m.
Wendy Macpherson of Henderson ran away with the voting for the Professional Women's Bowling Association's 1999 Player of the Year as voted by the players. In winning the third player of the year title in her career, Macpherson captured 78 percent of the vote.
Macpherson ranked first in nearly every category considered by the players. She was first in points with 10,650; first in earnings with $120,465; and first in average at 218.85. Her pace set a PWBA record for average, exceeding the 217.25 set by Dede Davidson in 1998. Not only did Macpherson participate in every event this year, she also cashed in every one. She also made the cut to the top 24 match play in all but three events. She finished 11 times in the top 10 and led all players with nine appearances in the televised finals.
Macpherson won two titles this year, the St. Clair Classic at Fairview Heights, Ill., and the Sam's Town Invitational in Las Vegas.
"This is a tremendous honor for me, especially since it's the players who vote on it," Macpherson said. "Trying to maintain a high level of performance in this sport over the course of the year is incredibly difficult and I feel very fortunate to have received this honor from my fellow athletes."
Finishing second for the third consecutive year in the voting was Carolyn Dorin Ballard of West Richland Hills, Texas.
