Gov. Kenny Guinn declared Wednesday as a day to honor three Nevada Highway Patrol troopers for their drug interdiction efforts in Southern Nevada.
Troopers Rosell Owens and Vincent Dinglasan have been part of the drug interdiction unit since it was started in 1996, and Trooper Julianne Hollands has been part of the unit for the past two years.
Since 1996 the unit has seized more than 1,500 pounds of marijuana, 177 pounds of cocaine, 244 pounds of methamphetamine and more than $1.39 million in drug money. They also have made more than 800 drug-related arrests.
"Those are impressive figures," said Guinn after he presented the troopers with the proclamations. "We truly appreciate your efforts to keep these kinds of drug traffickers and drugs off of our streets."
Guinn singled out deeds of each of the three troopers in the proclamations.
Dinglasan was recognized for his drug fighting work in several states including his help to the U.S. attorney in Montana in prosecuting the largest drug case in that state's history.
Holland was praised for seizing 50 pounds of methamphetamine from a person in August, which is the largest single seizure of the drug in the state.
Owens, in addition to his drug interdiction accomplishments, apprehended a man accused in several sniper shootings along a highway in February in Reno.
