Board of Health to study dust
Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999 | 11:53 a.m.
Without opposition, the Clark County District Board of Health accepted a proposal this morning to do a full inventory of dust-emission sources.
The $118,593 project would pool the resources of Kleinfelder Inc., an environmental management company; satellite imaging multinational TRW; and David James, a UNLV environmental researcher.
Under the proposal, the group will provide an inventory of sources for fine dust blown into the air in the Las Vegas Valley. Dust is considered one of the primary air pollutants choking the air in the valley, and the federal Environmental Protection Agency believes the dust can cause significant health problems.
The EPA considers the regional plan in place to deal with dust inadequate because it does not address the issue of dust from "disturbed vacant land."
