Police standoff ends peacefully in Reno
Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999 | 8:48 a.m.
The incident began when a Washoe County sheriff's deputy pulled over the man in a Cadillac for a routine traffic stop. The suspect, Darryl Anthony Williams, took off suddenly and led officers on a chase before he was pulled over again in northeast Reno about 2 a.m. Monday.
Officers approached the vehicle, but backed off when Williams pointed a gun at his own head and barricaded himself in the car.
Finally, at about 3:30 p.m., Williams got out of the car, placed his hands over his head and surrendered peacefully.
Police said he is being charged with eluding arrest with the use of a firearm and several traffic violations.
