New trustees named to shelter's board

The Shade Tree Shelter, a 24-hour emergency shelter that serves homeless women and women with children, has recently added six members to its board of trustees.

The addition is in conjunction with the shelter's growth and the building of its new 35,000 square-foot facility.

New board members are Pamela Benjamin of Park Towers; Kristen Hansen of Kristen & Friends; Richard Holley of James, Driggs, Walch, Santoro, Kearney, Johnson & Thompson; Kella Brown of CSTRR; Soozie Jones of Realty Executives; and Arnie Stalk of the Nevada Development and Realty Co.

Jewish center starts friendship groups

The Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada is forming new Chavurah groups that will be available for all Jewish Community Center members.

The categories of groups include couples, singles, gays and lesbians, single parents, young families, physically challenged and couples in inter-religious relationships.

Chavurah is Hebrew for friendship.

For more information or to become a member, call 794-0090.

Full-time or part-time employees needed

The Census Bureau is looking for full-time and part-time employees to help with the 2000 Census next year.

Applicants need to pass a relatively easy test and go through five days of paid training before they go into the field. The most intensive effort for next year's count will be in March.

The counts, which occur every 10 years, help determine the state's representation in Congress and how much federal money will come to Nevada.

Call 567-0900 for more information.
