Milo John Reese was billed $8,761.06 by Washoe County on Dec. 2, officials said.
Sheriff's officials said Reese sent a check for $500 and indicated he would pay the remainder when he is able to do so.
The sheriff's office has submitted the bill to county collections to set up a payment schedule.
Reese, 54, abandoned his car just east of Reno on Nov. 7 after he broke out a window with a rock and stained the seat with his own blood.
He surfaced 10 days later and admitted he was trying to bring publicity to his cause.
