After 20 years of performing classic melodies, the Nevada Symphony Orchestra has hit its sourest note.
Nevada Symphony Orchestra board President Janice Tanno sent letters dated Dec. 3 to the organization's 74 tenured musicians announcing that the organization is ceasing operations.
"There are a number of factors, including lack of resources," said Tanno, a member of the board for nine years. "This is very sad, but it also is necessary."
She said the organization's finances have been especially shaky the last five years.
"The gates were not that great and there was competition from the (Las Vegas) Philharmonic," she said.
The philharmonic started last year.
The symphony went under owing some of its musicians back wages. It is not known whether the musicians will be able to collect that money.
