The Las Vegas Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities will award $65,000 in grants to groups located in Las Vegas on Tuesday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Five charitable groups who benefit or help children will be presented checks as a result of the yearlong fund-raising campaign by SCC.
The foundation began its fundraising efforts in March by auctioning parade-lap rides with NASCAR Winston Cup drivers prior to the Las Vegas 400. This was the first of several events which included the inaugural Karting For Kids 500; the Clean Up Sam Campaign, where Indy Racing League driver Sam Schmidt agreed to shave his signature sideburns in exchange for a $3,000 donation to SCC; and the Motorized Media Mayhem race, in which local media representatives raced Legends cars at the speedway's 3/8-mile paved oval.
SCC will present grants to Shade Tree, Safe Nest, New Directions, Candlelighters and Child Haven. The ceremony will be held in the lobby of the speedway's administration building.
