Another coin truck robbed
Friday, Dec. 10, 1999 | 11:49 a.m.
A coin truck driver was robbed at gunpoint outside a neighborhood casino in the latest of a rash of such heists in the last six weeks.
The latest robbery occurred at 10:40 p.m. Thursday outside the Draft House Barn & Casino, 4543 N. Rancho Drive, when two men approached the driver and held him up at gunpoint, police said. The name of the company for which the driver worked was not immediately released.
The bandits escaped with an undisclosed amount of money. No shots were fired. The driver was not harmed, police said.
Descriptions were not immediately available on the robbers.
Metro Police also could not immediately say whether the robbery was connected to similar holdups. This was the seventh such robbery since the first week in November.
The last such robbery occurred just before Thanksgiving when a Jackpot Coin truck was robbed as the driver left a convenience store at Meadows Lane and Decatur Boulevard at about 7:15 p.m., police said.
In that heist, two robbers put a sweatshirt over the head of the driver and then drove the truck about a quarter-mile to a residential neighborhood, where the driver was forced to open the truck's safe, police said. He was then released unharmed.
Thursday's robbery was the fourth such theft since three men were arrested in connection with the first three incidents.
Teddy Seals, 20, Lamar Crosby, 22, and Kenneth Louis, 33, were arrested Nov. 12 in connection with a coin-truck robbery that day and have since been connected to two similar robberies the first week of November, police said.
