Sales, profits improve for LV manufacturer

Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999 | 11:44 a.m.

Las Vegas chemical manufacturer American Pacific Corp. reported a fourth quarter profit of $3.9 million or 48 cents per share, up from $200,000 or 3 cents in the year-ago quarter. Quarterly sales jumped 33 percent to $18.4 million.

For the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, sales increased 39 percent to $72.8 million. The annual profit was $11.4 million or $1.39 per share vs. a loss in 1998 of $2 million or 24 cents per share. American Pacific said full-year sales for its perchlorate rocket fuel ingredient were $48.7 million, up from $35 million in the previous year. The increase was attributed to AP's $39 million purchase of Kerr-McGee's rocket fuel business.

Sales increased for azide chemicals used in airbags from $10.9 million in 1998 to $14.3 million in 1999. Fire suppression chemical sales fell slightly to $1.5 million.
