Ronald L. Bissell

Ronald L. Bissell, 61, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Jan. 1, 1938, in Montana. A resident for six years, he was a warehouse manager in the art supply industry and an Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen; three stepsons, James White, John White and Joseph White; six stepdaughters, Kathleen White, Patricia Emineth, Victoria Callender, Mary Beth Fisette, Ellen Chappell and Margaret Maxwell; one brother, Floyd Bissell Jr.; five sisters, Shirley Ullom, Ruth Schmidt, Lynn Cromrich, Jan Ullom and Terry Mckinnis; and 16 grandchildren.

Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

Andrew Capul

Andrew Capul, 94, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. A resident for five years, he was born Feb. 23, 1905, in Havana.

He is survived by his wife, Antonette; three sons, Ramon Capul of Scottsdale, Ariz., Domenic Capul of New Hyde Park, N.Y., and Andrew Capul of New York City; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today with a 5:45 p.m. service at Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave.

Thomas Aloysius Gavin

Thomas Aloysius Gavin, 72, of Henderson died Monday in Henderson. He was born April 18, 1927, in Scranton, Pa. A resident for three years, he retired in 1989 with more than 40 years of railroad service.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene; three sons, John Gavin of Utah and Michael Gavin and Thomas Gavin, both of Pennsylvania; three daughters, Mary Ann Sintich of New Jersey and Judy Prisco and Jean Marie Tomaine, both of Pennsylvania; one stepson, Gregory Davis, and one stepdaughter, Jill Perrie, both of Las Vegas; two brothers, Gerald Gavin and Edward Gavin, both of Pennsylvania; three sisters, Jane Riley of Maryland and Lois McGowan and Rose O'Connor, both of Pennsylvania; and 13 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave.

John Hauk

John Hauk, 74, of Henderson died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 17, 1925, in Kansas City, Mo. A resident for 10 years, he was a World War II and Korean War Marine Corps veteran, a member of the Elks, Marine Corps League, Leathernecks, 2nd Marine Division Association, retired Military Golfers Association and Marine Corps Scholastic Foundation.

He is survived by three daughters, Linda Houghtby and Patti Burdette, both of San Diego, and Sandy Mariani of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; one son, Michael Hauk of Kingman, Ariz.; two brothers, Roy of Marian, Kan., and Charles of Kansas City, Kan.; one sister, Anita Douglas of Edwardsville, Kan.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Graveside services were scheduled at 10 a.m. today in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., handled arrangements.

The family suggests donations to the Marine Corps Scholarship Fund.

Mary Louise Jacobs

Mary Louise Jacobs, 61, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. She was born Aug. 7, 1938, in Bergholz, Ohio. A resident for 20 years, she was a pit clerk at the Mirage hotel-casino.

She is survived by her husband, Neil; one daughter, Jean Marie Jacobs, one sister, Jody Guido, and one niece, Cathy Dudas, all of Las Vegas.

Visitation is scheduled 5-7 p.m. today in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Paradise Memorial Gardens.

Althea S. Johnson

Althea S. Johnson, 40, of Las Vegas died Friday. She was born Sept. 22, 1959, in Las Vegas. A lifelong resident, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Ebony Johnson, and three sons, Touree Johnson, Imen Johnson and Damien Johnson, all of Las Vegas; six brothers, Ozia Thomas of Louisiana and Eddie Thomas, Feltis Thomas, John Edward Johnson III, Christopher Johnson and Frankie McGolfyn, all of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 10 a.m.-noon Friday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Palm Memorial Park.

Florence Kalar

Florence Kalar, 74, of Las Vegas died Dec. 2 in a local health care center. She was born Sept. 14, 1925, in Madison, Wis. A resident for 10 years, she was a maid in the new-home construction industry.

She is survived by her husband, Ernest; one son, Robert Kalar of Des Plaines, Ill.; two daughters, Linda Jo Naffin of Mayville, Wis., and Susan Rae Hanney of Stoughton, Wis.; two brothers, Russell LaFlash of Wisconsin and Roger LaFlash of Tennessee; one sister, Irene LaFlash of Verna, Wis.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Nevada Funeral Service-Nevada Cremation or Burial Society, 2983 Fremont St., is handling arrangements.

Adolph 'Bob' Kendra

Adolph 'Bob' Kendra, 71, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born May 23, 1928, in Chicago. A resident for two years, he was a Korean War Army veteran.

He is survived by one daughter, Denise Crescio of Juliet, Ill.; two sons, David Kendra of Morris, Ill., and Dennis Kendra of Lockport, Ill.; his mother, Rose Kendra, and one sister, Genevieve Kendra, both of Las Vegas; one brother, Leonard Kendra of Manteno, Ill.; and four grandchildren.

Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

Stevie L. McKinney

Stevie L. McKinney, 50, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 20, 1949, in Las Vegas. A lifelong resident, he was an electronics draftsman.

He is survived by his wife, Irma; one son, Demone Tisdale, and one daughter, Sekahri McKinney, both of Henderson; his mother, Mattie McKinney, and two sisters, Zandra Gaines and Beverly Jean McKinney, all of Las Vegas; and his grandmother, Bertha McKinney of Texas; and four grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ, 1117 N. F St. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Charles Donald Melton

Charles Donald Melton, 60, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 24, 1939, in Kentucky. A resident for five years, he was employed as a special products dispatcher for Allied Van Lines and was a veteran.

He is survived by his companion, Joyce Johnson of Las Vegas; two sons, Randall Melton and Jeff Melton, both of Omaha, Neb.; and 15 grandchildren.

No local services are scheduled. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Kenneth Christopher Minagil

Kenneth Christopher Minagil, 83, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born Nov. 16, 1916, in Hartford, Conn. A resident for 36 years, he was a retired merchandising manager at Anderson Dairy and a World War II Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce; five sons, Stephen Minagil and Randall Minagil, both of Las Vegas, Richard Minagil and Kenneth Minagil, both of Connecticut, and Gary Minagil of Canada; two daughters, Bonnie Minagil of California and Suzanne Peterson of Florida; one sister, Gloria Haggart of Florida; and seven grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Central Christian Church, 3415 S. Mojave Road. Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

Peter R. Penta Sr.

Peter R. Penta Sr., 61, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born April 30, 1938, in Queens, N.Y. A resident for 3 1/2 years, he was a retired bakery route salesman and a Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn P.; two sons, Peter R. Penta Jr. of Lindenhurst, N.Y., and Brian P. Penta of Babylon, N.Y.; three daughters, Lynn P. Motto, Jennifer A. Birk and Alison M. Penta, all of Las Vegas; and 10 grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today, 2 p.m. until a 4 p.m. rosary Friday and 5-7 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave. Mass will be celebrated noon Saturday in St. Joseph, Husband of Mary Catholic Church, 7260 W. Sahara Ave.

Danette Theresa Pichon-Brunson

Danette Theresa Pichon-Brunson, 38, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. She was born June 26, 1961, in Los Angeles. A resident for three years, she was a customer service representative in the banking and travel industries.

She is survived by her husband, Terry Brunson; her mother and stepfather, Una and Eldridge Wiltz of Bullhead City, Ariz.; three brothers, Ricki Pichon and Robert Pichon, both of Los Angeles, and Rodney Pichon of Alta Loma, Calif.; two sisters, Donna Pichon of Canoga Park, Calif., and Camille Jamison of Los Angeles; and one grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled noon-4 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. services Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Bernice Josephine Stott

Bernice Josephine Stott, 95, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local care center. She was born June 7, 1904, in Nanticoke, Pa. A resident for 13 years, she was a homemaker, attended mayor's annual dinners for seniors aged 90 and over and has received awards for the most grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by one son, Allen C. Stott of Wonder Lake, Ill.; one daughter, Wendy Stott Simmons of Las Vegas; one brother, Leon Macie of Chicago; one sister, Stella Buckley of Flushing, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 8 p.m. today with 5 p.m. services in Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd. Burial will be in Illinois.

Robert Thalgott

Robert Thalgott, 81, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Dec. 6, 1918, in Zeigler, Ill. A resident for 38 years, he was a retired operations manager for the Department of Energy and a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mildred; one daughter, Dr. Mary Ruth Thalgott of Tucson, Ariz.; two sons, Dr. Robert H. Thalgott II and Dr. John S. Thalgott, both of Las Vegas; and six grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 3-5 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday in the First Presbyterian Church, 1515 W. Charleston Blvd.

Michael Sarah Thomas

Michael Sarah Thomas, 8, of Henderson died Monday in Henderson. She was born Oct. 31, 1991, in Las Vegas. A lifelong resident, she was a Lamping Elementary School student and on the Champion Homes soccer team, "The Angels," and was a member of the Girl Scouts.

She is survived by her father, Cedric L. Thomas of Las Vegas; her mother and stepfather, Michelle and Kevin Shaffer, and one sister, Siera Ryan Shaffer, all of San Antonio; her grandparents, Brenda Thomas and Michael R. and Carol Stearman, all of Las Vegas; and her great-grandparents, Nellie Williams of Brigham City, Utah, and Jack Henderson of Pocatello, Idaho.

Visitation is scheduled 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. services Friday in the Ocean Street LDS Chapel, Henderson. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park, Henderson.

Regina Joy Vevers

Regina Joy Vevers, 23, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. She was born Jan. 30, 1976, in Las Vegas. A lifelong resident, she was a waitress.

She is survived by her fiance, Joel Irby, and her father, Joseph Vevers, both of Las Vegas; her mother, Robin Arnesen-Thayer of Bonney Lake, Wash.; five sisters, Josie Vevers, Erika Vevers and Jessica Vevers, all of Las Vegas, and Mariah Thayer and Tori Thayer, both of Bonney Lake; two brothers, Tony Arnesen and Shane Dalton, both of Las Vegas; and her grandparents, Maryann and Joseph Acosta Jr. and Robert Arnesen, all of Las Vegas.
