Temple Beth Sholom to honor Goodman

Temple Beth Sholom will honor Mayor Oscar Goodman and his wife, Carolyn, at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Four Seasons hotel.

The evening will offer celebrity and local friends of the Goodmans attending as friendly "roasters." Some of the expected celebrities are Mike Wallace, Robert DeNiro, Don Rickles, Breck Wall and Wayne Newton.

SCORE to offer workshop on Saturday

The Las Vegas Chapter of Service Corps of Retired Executives will present its next Starting a New Business workshop 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the New Business Information Center, 1951 N. Stella Lake Drive.

SCORE counselors will cover marketing, cash flow, record keeping, the business plan and a check list for licensing, permits and other requirements. Cost is $30 if prepaid or $35 at the door. Call 388-6104.

Counseling sessions set for three campuses

The Community College Southern Nevada is conducting more than a dozen counseling and registration workshops at its three main campuses in December and January to help students plan for its Spring 2000 semester, which begins Jan. 24.

Registration is open through Jan. 28.

Counseling sessions at Cheyenne Campus will be 6 p.m. Dec. 22, 2 p.m. Jan. 6, 10 a.m. Jan. 12 and 6 p.m. Jan. 19.

At the West Charleston Campus, the schedule is 5 p.m. Dec. 15, 8 a.m. Jan. 19 and 4:30 p.m. Jan. 20.

At the Henderson Campus sessions will be 6 p.m. Dec. 13, 11 a.m. Jan. 6, 6 p.m. Jan. 11 and 11 a.m. Jan. 20.

To reserve a session, students can visit counseling offices or call 651-4049 for the Cheyenne sessions, 651-5670 for Charleston and 651-3165 for Henderson.

Experimental session planned at library

The Jewish Community Center is sponsoring art therapist Jessica Berg in an experimental session 2:30-4 p.m. Dec. 12 in the Summerlin Library Conference Room, 1771 Inner City Drive, to explain one of the premises of art therapy.

Parents and children can make art, share it and learn how to talk about the art in a way that can foster communication and understanding. Cost is $8 for community center members, $12 for nonmembers. Call 794-0090.

Jewish Family Service schedules holiday party

The Jewish Family Service Agency is planning a holiday party for its volunteers and the elderly people they serve at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Spring Valley Library, 4280 S. Jones Blvd.

There will be food, fun, entertainment and door prizes for volunteers. Call Lorraine Rubenstein, volunteer coordinator, at 732-0304.

Concert series continues Friday

The WorldFolk Foundation will sponsor the third in a series of benefit concerts for its Helping Cans project 6 p.m. Friday at Mars the Musician's Planet, 2747 S. Maryland Parkway.

WorldFolk volunteers will collect donations and nonperishable food items to benefit Help of Southern Nevada, The Las Vegas Rescue Mission, Aid For AIDS of Southern Nevada and Catholic Charities of Souther Nevada.

Barber shop quartets to stage concert

The Las Vegas chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America will take the stage at Fellowship Christian Church, 6210 W. Cheyenne Ave., for its annual winter concert 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The show will feature Stardust, a popular local quartet known for both its showmanship and contest rankings. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $8 for children under 12. Call 645-2415.

Clark County Museum plans Saturday celebration

The Clark County Department of Parks and Recreation and Clark County Museum are holding their 12th annual Old Fashioned Christmas Celebration 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday at 1830 S. Boulder Highway in Henderson.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be present 1-5 p.m. and carolers will sing noon-6 p.m.. Admission is $1.50 for adults and $1 for seniors and children. Call 455-7955.

Quick Care schedules event on Saturday

University Medical Center's Peccole Ranch Quick Care will offer free cholesterol screening 8-11 a.m. Saturday at 9320 W. Sahara Ave.

Participants should only drink water (no food) the morning of the screening and take their medications. To schedule an appointment, call 383-3850.

Memorial Tree
