Architecture firm president resigns from City Centre

Thomas Schoeman submitted his voluntary resignation to the City Centre Development Corp. board of directors Monday citing conflicts between his architecture firm and the CCDC's business.
Schoeman, president of JMA Architecture Studios, cited his firm's design of a planned 100,000-square-foot building being developed by the Pauls Corp. as the reason for his resignation.
The development corporation is the private sector arm of city redevelopment efforts. Seven development industry volunteers comprise the CCDC board of directors.
The Pauls Corp. has exclusive negotiation rights to plan an office building at Fourth Street and Lewis Avenue. Since Schoeman's firm is now designing the building, he said he could not participate in City Centre business.
Deputy City Attorney Terri Ponticello told the board that it was her office's opinion that a conflict existed. However, she said, Schoeman's decision was voluntary.
The board did not have Schoeman's unexpected resignation on its official agenda Monday and could not act on it. Vice Chairman Ken Templeton said he did not want to lose Schoeman's service to the board.
