Ely says Forest Service and public officials friendly

District Ranger Jerry Green said his workers enjoy healthy relations with local governmental entities and the public.

"We have good relationships in all three of our counties," Green told the Ely Daily Times.

The Ely Ranger District covers 1.1 million acres in White Pine, Nye and Lincoln counties.

Green's attitude is not shared by others in the Forest Service in Nevada, according to a memo written by a Forest Service law enforcement officer.

The Sept. 3 memo by Wayne Smith says Forest Service workers fear for their safety, and accuses federal prosecutors of not going after criminals who threaten them and break environmental laws.
