Holiday concert set at West LV Library

The fifth annual Shoes for Children Holiday Concert is scheduled 6 p.m. Wednesday at the West Las Vegas Library, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd.

Celebration features comedian Lou Collins and many others. Admission is one new pair of children's shoes not gift wrapped, sizes 0-13, or 1-12. Shoes will be distributed at the West Las Vegas Library theater at 10 a.m. Saturday. Volunteers are welcome. Call 647-8169 for more information.

Concert planned for food drive

The WorldFolk Foundation will sponsor the third in a series of benefit concerts for its second annual Helping Cans Project.

The live in-store performance, at 6 p.m. Friday at Mars The Musician's Planet, 2747 S. Maryland Parkway, will feature local musicians Laura Finkel, Clevermeat, Conni Emerson, Jeff Orr, Hekella and a special guest.

Volunteers from WorldFolk, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting culture through music, art, poetry, education and community involvement, will collect donations and nonperishable food items.

Donations also can be dropped off or sent to WorldFolk, 3111 S. Valley View Blvd., Suite A-200, Las Vegas, NV 89102. Call Rod Belford at 220-9194.

Drugstores hosting food donations

Rite Aid Pharmacies in Las Vegas and Henderson will have barrels located in each store for canned and boxed food to help the needy and homeless this holiday season.

Customers can drop off canned and boxed food at their local Rite Aid stores though Dec. 23. They will also have canisters at each register for monetary donations. The charitable donation of food and money will benefit Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada. Call 385-2662.

Stuff The Truck toy drive begins

The fourth annual KLUC Stuff The Truck toy drive to benefit local community service organizations begins today and continues through 10 a.m. Dec. 17 at the parking lot of the Boulevard mall.

The goal is to raise 98,000 toys in 12 days.

Chet Buchanan of KLUC 98.5-FM's Morning Zoo will be live on top of the 20-foot stage through the 12 days. Call 889-7343.

Archaeo-Nevada group gets together

The Archaeo-Nevada Society will celebrate its second annual "An Olde Fashioned Christmas" get-together and tree decorating party at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Mormon Fort State Park at Las Vegas Boulevard and Washington Avenue.

Fun center plans fund-raising event

Mountain Family Fun Center, in conjunction with United Blood Services and Chet's Charities, Inc., will present Chet's Charities Days 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday.

Chet's Charities is a nonprofit organization to benefit 3-year-old Chet Wellborn, a Las Vegas boy who has severe aplastic anemia. Chet's blood cells are no long being produced in his bone marrow, requiring regular blood transfusions.
